Battleground Virginia is a documentary film that captures the Republican Party from the ground up. How do politics work at the local level? What happens behind the scenes of the most influential yet undocumented campaigns? This non-partisan project aims to truly examine the people behind the politics and the challenges they face on the campaign trail. From the wacky characters and events that liven the local political scene, to the harsh realities and chaos that is a part of this dynamic and often cut throat game, Battleground Virginia will capture it all from the perspective of three Virginia campaigns.

In the Post-Trump political environment, the extraordinary has become the commonplace, the unexpected the norm. Virginia has, since the founding of this country, been the epicenter of political intrigue and drama. 2018 will be no exception.

Dave Brat, the giant-slaying, Tea Party hero is facing a serious challenge from the emergent liberal response to the Tea Party. Tom Garrett, freshman congressman and emerging conservative leader in the US Congress is being significantly bested in fundraising by his numerous democratic rivals. Delegate Ben Cline, a well-known and well-respected republican member of the General Assembly, is facing a contentious convention to secure the republican nomination from the furthest extremes of the republican party.

Though beyond the basic political questions, what stories will the individuals who turn these candidates into elected officials, the activists, and the voters themselves have to tell?

Battleground Virginia is not your typical documentary film as we aim to invent a new format for the genre. Injecting cinematic and fictional elements, quirky animations, allegorical and humorous sketches, and an eclectic soundtrack, this documentary will be unlike anything you've seen before.
